JP2
What Is A JP2 File?
A JP2 file is a JPEG 2000 image. It was designed as a more advanced image format than classic JPEG, with support for efficient compression and high-quality imaging workflows. JP2 is used in some archives, publishing systems, medical imaging, and specialized document workflows. The issue is compatibility. Many everyday apps, upload forms, and websites still expect JPG, PNG, or WebP instead. Converting JP2 makes the image easier to open and use in normal workflows.
Best For
Archival imaging, publishing systems, specialized image storage, and JPEG 2000 workflows.
Watch Out For
JP2 is not as widely accepted as JPG or PNG in everyday apps, browsers, upload forms, and sharing workflows.
